Cotutelle Agreement

 

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University encourages doctoral degrees which are jointly supervised with international partner. Such a joint supervision needs to be governed by a document called “Cotutelle Agreement”. Arrangements for joint supervision or ‘cotutelle agreements’ are made regarding the studies and supervision of a single doctoral candidate. Such students are awarded degrees from both universities.

 

One of the main goals of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is to maintain the high quality of international standards in research and education; attainment of this goal makes International cooperation is an integral part TSU’s strategy and action, and joint supervision of doctoral candidates is seen as one of the mechanisms along this way.

 

A PhD student at TSU may opt for a degree under a joint supervision arrangement between TSU and a partner university, accredited by an appropriate authority in the country of operation; the commitment of joint supervision must include genuine scientific collaboration between the involved units of the two universities and the outcome of such cooperation should add value to the doctoral dissertation and enhance the quality of the research. Cotutelle agreement should be signed by the involved sides at the beginning of the studies.
