Another TSU Education Program Receives International Recognition

Another educational program of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) has gained international recognition. The English-language bachelor’s degree program in Chemistry has been accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS) for a period of six years.

The Bachelor’s degree program in Chemistry is similar to the joint program of San Diego State University (USA) and TSU, which has been implemented at Tbilisi State University since 2015. The program is based on the standards and requirements of the American Chemical Society and the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement of Georgia.

The educational program has been implemented at TSU since 2020 and uses the material and technical base renovated by San Diego State University-Georgia at TSU and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

The educational program is designed considering all the theoretical and practical courses necessary to obtain the relevant qualifications. Chemical and biochemical laboratories equipped with the most modern equipment are used in the teaching process, where students acquire practical knowledge and experience. The program also includes a variety of general education subjects and is designed for both Georgian and foreign students.

Since the inception of the English-language chemistry program at TSU, work has been underway to have the program recognized by the American Chemical Society, which requires compliance with the rigorous standards of the ACS. The process of program accreditation was successfully completed in August 2023, as the curriculum and laboratories are fully compliant with the ACS requirements.

The American Chemical Society is one of the oldest, largest, and highly reputable professional organizations in the United States and beyond. Accordingly, an ACS-accredited chemistry graduate from TSU’s undergraduate program will find it easy to develop both future academic and professional careers.

In addition to the United States, together with Tbilisi State University, only four universities – the Universities of Scotland, Columbia, Wales and Thailand - have received ACS certification.

There are 240 accredited programs at all three levels of education in seven faculties of TSU, including programs with international accreditation. For the first time in Georgia, only the educational programs of TSU have received international accreditation: in 2020, two programs - Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ABET), in 2021, the first in Georgia and the region, the educational programs of the International School of Economics (ISET) of Tbilisi State University (FIBAA), and the TSU-Speyer Joint Master’s Program in Public Administration (FIBAA) have been re-accredited, which means that graduates of these TSU programs will receive an internationally recognized diploma that will be competitive in any country.
