One of the main objectives of the project "Academic Integrity for Quality Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Institutions in Georgia (INTEGRITY)” of Erasmus Institutional Development Program is developing university policy and relevant instruments in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning by taking into account the principles of Academic Integrity.

The following activities were carried out in 2018-2020 for the purpose of improving university policy:

Development of University Policy on Academic Integrity

In 2019-2020, working group was created by the order of the Rector of TSU, in order to modify and create regulatory documents related to raising the culture of Academic Integrity. “The Policy Document of Academic Integrity of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University LEPL” was developed by the members of working group and approved by the Academic Council (See Decree 37/2020). The Policy Document specifies the university's views regarding issues such as: Adherence to the principle and values of Academic Integrity, detection of their violation and accompanying results, preventive measures, etc.

Updating of Legal Acts of the University

The regulations and instruments applicable in the University in terms of protection of Academic Integrity were analyzed by the members of the working group. "Code of Ethics", "Internal regulation and disciplinary liability norms", "Regulation of learning process” and „Decree on the job responsibility of the personnel performing scientific and educational function within the framework of academic ethics and service activities” were updated based on developed recommendations and coincided with a document on Academic Integrity Policy of the University.

Modification of Bachelor's and Master's Thesis Guidelines

During the 2019-2020 academic year, the guidelines for bachelor’s and master’s theses have been updated and approved by the faculty councils with the coordination of the Faculty Quality Assurance Departments. The basis for the modification of the guidelines were internal university legal acts developed and updated within the framework of the INTEGRITY project and the values of academic integrity declared by the University in these acts.

Changes in Academic Writing Training Courses

Recommendations regarding the development of academic writing syllabi were developed by the professor Miles Berry from the University of Roehampton. Based on the recommendations received, the existing academic writing syllabi in all seven faculties have been modified, and in some cases new syllabi have been developed. The updated and newly developed syllabi were approved by the Academic Council on April 4, 2019 (Decree N44/2019  and Decree N43/2019 ).

Changes in Educational Programs

For the purposes of the project, changes can be observed in the educational programs too. In this regard, the resolution N100/2019 "Procedure for planning, elaborating, evaluating and developing educational programs of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University” was developed by the initiative of the Quality Assurance Office and approved by the Academic Council. Based on the resolution, focusing on the issues related to Academic Integrity has become an integral part of the learning outcomes of values and autonomy in educational programmes and training courses. Herewith, a mandatory record of adherence to the principles of Academic Integrity was added to all courses developed and/or updated at the University since 2019 (Resolution N16/2020 ).
