Since 2001, Tbilisi State University has supported the Javakheti Student Expedition in Akhalkalaki. This year, the expedition implemented several activities with funding from TSU student projects. Noteworthy activities include lectures by TSU museum employees on the establishment of the university, educational centers in Georgia, the history of the Vazha-Pshavela Memorial Museum, and hosting international visitors.
The expedition representatives noted that “this meeting provided an important opportunity for the students to deepen their theoretical knowledge and become familiar with the multifaceted specifics of museum work."
Along with Archpriest Alexander Kasrashvili, the museum staff visited the Kumurdo Cathedral and discussed its historical and architectural features on site.
As part of the event, visits were organized to several cultural heritage sites, including the Museum of the Eparchy of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo and Kars, which houses unique religious and historical exhibits, such as the holy relics of over 3 000 saints. Other sites included the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel, and the crypt, which houses an exact copy of the Shroud of Turin.
