Jaba Samushia Hosts Chinese Delegation

 

Academician Jaba Samushia, Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, hosted Dr. Sun Jisheng, Vice President of China Foreign Affairs University; Guo Yongjun, Director of the Institute of Asian Studies, and representatives of the Institute of International Relations and the Chinese Embassy in Georgia. The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of future cooperation between Tbilisi State University and China Foreign Affairs University.

Rector Samushia introduced the history of the university to the guests, and talked about the opportunities that Tbilisi State University offers to both Georgian and foreign students. “We also have a great interest in deepening the relations that began between our countries a long time ago. Our university promotes the development of Sinology. We are raising a generation that is interested in learning about Chinese history, culture and language. We would like to further deepen academic cooperation between our countries,” said Jaba Samushia.

The Rector expressed his readiness to sign a memorandum between Tbilisi State University and China Foreign Affairs University, which will facilitate the implementation of joint scientific, educational and exchange programs. Jaba Samushia also spoke about the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to China, during which Georgian Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari signed a memorandum of cooperation with China in the field of education.

During the visit, the delegation met with Salome Dundua, the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of TSU, and Pikria Asanishvili, the Head of the Department of International Relations. Dr. Sun Jisheng, Vice President of China Foreign Affairs University, and other representatives of the delegation talked about deepening the future partnership between the universities, planning and implementation of joint scientific and educational projects in the direction of international relations and political sciences.

Dr. Sun Jisheng said that their mission is to deepen cooperation not only for students, but also for professors and researchers, who will be able to learn about their colleagues’ activities through exchange programs.
