Jaba Samushia Participates in International Scientific Conference on Georgian Wheat

 

Rector of Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia spoke about the diversity of Georgian wheat, culture, history of grain culture and its distribution at the opening of the international scientific conference “Georgian Wheat Culture - Continuous Tradition of Use and Rituals”.

 

Around 80 scientists from six countries are participating in a two-day international scientific conference. During his opening remarks, Rector Jaba Samushia noted that Georgian and foreign scientists will present reports in the fields of archaeology, ethnology, and history. Additionally, the available scientific material on Georgian wheat culture will be summarized in an interdisciplinary manner.

 

The Rector also spoke about the culture and technology of bread baking and emphasized the importance of the expedition, which was financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. “It was a complex expedition, which collected all knowledge about Georgian wheat,” said Jaba Samushia. According to him, an exhibition related to Georgian wheat will be held at Tbilisi State University in April. “This will be a continuation of this conference to promote Georgian wheat worldwide.”

 

Representatives from the Parliament of Georgia, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, the Patriarchate of Georgia, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Georgian National Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Georgian and foreign scientists, and invited guests attended the conference opening.

 

“The conference brings together representatives of the Georgian academic community and foreign experts. The goal is to promote Georgian culture through further activities and receive UNESCO’s recognition within the working group that unites representatives of this field, government agencies, and academic community,” Nino Tsilosani, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Issues, stated.

 

The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences organized the conference with the support of the Parliamentary Committee on Agrarian Issues, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia and the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.
