TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia, Ishizuka Hideki, and Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Japan, Maiko Shimizu, at the TSU National Scientific Library. The meeting was held to discuss the successful completion of the National Scientific Library’s cultural grant program with the Embassy of Japan.
During the meeting, Rector Samushia thanked the Japanese side for its comprehensive support: “We appreciate the consistent support of the Japanese side in developing Japanese studies curricula and technological strengthening of the scientific library. The renovated library is one of the most important spaces for our university’s academic community, and this project has significantly expanded its capabilities.”
The project’s results are particularly significant and innovative. Thanks to the Japanese grant, the library received a high-resolution A1 format Bookeye scanner and server, which will enable the high-quality digitization of rare, unique and historically valuable materials in the future. Digitizing these materials will significantly improve the protection of Georgian scientific and artistic heritage, ensure the materials are widely accessible and guarantee they comply with modern standards.
Digitized products will gradually be placed in open-access repositories, simplifying research processes, increasing international interest, and breathing new life into Georgian cultural heritage.
