A scientific conference dedicated to Georgian Language Day was held at Tbilisi State University (TSU). TSU Deputy Rector Erekle Astakhishvili welcomed the guests, delivering a speech about the history of the Georgian language and recalling the events of 1978, in which he himself had participated.
The Faculty of Humanities, the State Language Department and the Giorgi Akhvlediani Society for the History of Linguistics organized the conference. TSU professors, scientists, and students participated in the event.
Special awards were presented at the event to Lela Tsitsuashvili and Gia Gugushvili in recognition of their contribution to Georgian culture, and to Abraham Sapir in recognition of his work in popularizing Georgian culture in Israel.
The conference sessions will last for three days and will cover topics related to the history and development of the Georgian language.
