TSU Hosts Euroclassica Annual Conference and General Assembly

 

The 2026 Euroclassica Annual Conference and General Assembly opened at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU).

TSU Deputy Rector Erekle Astakhishvili; Maria Theodorou, the Greek Ambassador to Georgia; and Levan Gigineishvili, TSU Professor and Director of the Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, made their welcome speeches at the event.

The conference brings together approximately 40 foreign and 20 Georgian researchers from 24 countries. Presentations will address the importance of interdisciplinarity in teaching classical languages ​​and culture, synthesizing traditional and innovative methods, and exploring epigraphy, ancient poetry and metrics. There will also be discussions on the effective and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

The workshop of the Accademia Vivarium Novum delegation, TSU's partner, was given special attention. It presents the practice of teaching classical languages ​​using the so-called natural method.

The Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies of the Faculty of Humanities at Tbilisi State University organized the event, and the Georgian National Museum and Academia Europaea Tbilisi Knowledge Hub are co-organizers.

Founded in 1991, Euroclassica aims to popularize classical languages and culture. In 2023, TSU joined the organization, contributing to the university’s growth in international recognition and alignment with European standards.
