TSU Hosts Working Meeting on Developing Inclusive Environment

 

On the initiative of the Disability Research Center of the TSU Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, a working meeting was held to improve the inclusiveness of the university environment in support of blind and visually impaired students. The meeting was attended by the Deans of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, as well as the heads and employees of the TSU Library, Quality Assurance and Information Technology Services, experts, and other stakeholders.  

Zurab Gaiparashvili, the head of the TSU library, introduced the participants to the initiative of the Rector of TSU, Academician Jaba Samushia, regarding the digitization of books. Experts and interested parties then discussed this issue. During the meeting, the participants also had the opportunity to view the equipment purchased within the framework of the CISI project for blind and visually impaired students. The equipment will be available at the TSU libraries for those with relevant needs during the spring semester. The international project “Innovations in the Curriculum to Support Social Inclusion” (CISI) is supported by the Erasmus+ program. The project is implemented with the involvement of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and is coordinated by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The purpose of the project is to promote the social inclusion of persons with disabilities.

TSU continues to work to improve the inclusiveness of the university environment. The Disability Research Center at TSU, with the involvement of all stakeholders, has started working on the concept of a support center for students with special educational needs. It is planned to strengthen the cooperation with the University of Marburg in this direction.
