Meet TSU Scientist - Tamar Jobava

“Physics is an attempt to understand what the universe is made of,” says Tamar Jobava, a senior scientist at the Institute of High Energy Physics of Tbilisi State University, who has participated in one of the world's largest scientific experiments at CERN's Large Hadron Collider for decades.

Tamar Jobava's path to science began in childhood: having grown up surrounded by physicists, she firmly decided to become a physicist during her school years. Today, her research is related to particle physics, a field that seeks to unravel the fundamental laws of the universe.

Her participation in the ATLAS experiment led to the observation of the Higgs boson, a discovery that transformed our understanding of the universe. She collaborates with over 5,000 researchers from 38 countries on theories of the creation of the universe. She has the highest bibliometric data, including citation index, of any Georgian scientist.

“Particle physics is not just a profession - it is an attempt to understand the fundamental laws of the universe. If you are sincerely interested in these questions, you are on the right path,” - this is the advice that the renowned scientist gives to young people.
