Exhibition of TSU Publications

An exhibition of university publications has been opened at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), featuring the books published by TSU professors, scientists and researchers in Georgia and abroad over the past five years.

Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevich, academics and Georgian writers attended the event.

Rector George Sharvashidze said that the exhibition would lay the foundation for holding a scientific book festival that would significantly promote the popularization of scientific literature. “Over the past five years, our publishing house has released a lot of books, mostly scientific literature, in both Georgian and foreign languages, as well as Abkhaz and Ossetian languages. We also have publications released abroad. We would like to lay the foundation for holding a science literature festival and we are ready to host this event,” Rector Sharvashidze noted.

“The book exhibition is the best opportunity for our students to see that we, the scientists, are still writing for them, we are writing to share our works with each other and foreign publishers are publishing our works,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevich said. She stressed that the TSU Publishing House, which will soon turn 100, publishes academic works created by both TSU professors and foreign colleagues.

Giorgi Lobzhanidze, TSU Professor and Editor of the Literary Almanac “Pirveli Skhivi”, presented the 2nd edition of “Pirveli Skhivi” uniting the works by the authors of various generations. “Pirveli Skhivi has turned into one of the visiting cards and one of the prestigious publications of Tbilisi State University where the authors are happy to see their works printed,” he noted.

Translations of prayers and hymns with illustrations by Marc Chagall were exhibited for the first time at TSU. Associate Professor of the Faculty of Humanities, Nino Samsonia noted that the presentation of the publication will be held in the near future.

Rector George Sharvashidze awarded Vasil Maglaperidze, a graduate of TSU, with the Gold Medal of the University for his program “My Georgia” and GPB’s multimedia project “Georgia 360”, as well as his special contribution to popularization of science. “TSU has always strived to develop education and science. Georgian science is moving out of stagnation and developing further,”-Vasil Maglaperidze said.

About 800 books published by all seven faculties and 16 research institutes of TSU, as well as TSU Library over the past five years reflect recent research activities and discoveries made in various scientific fields. In addition, several hundreds of online scientific editions were also prepared during the same period.
