“Teachers in Support of Inclusive Education”

A presentation of the main results of the research project “Teachers in Support of Inclusive Education" was held at Tbilisi State University.

Coordinated by Tbilisi State University, the project has been implemented since 2022 and its main goal is to study ways to improve the quality of inclusive education in Georgia.

During the presentation, Tamar Makharadze, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at TSU and Head of the Disability Research Center, noted that the purpose of the research is to study the current attitudes toward inclusive education and the related challenges; analyze the readiness of target universities (TSU, BSU, ATSU, TESAU) for inclusive education; and prepare a guide for improving the inclusive environment at each university based on the research data.

Four Georgian universities (TSU, BSU, ATSU, TESAU) are involved in the project implementation. The research analyzed the opinions of students, academic and administrative staff, and the attitudes of future and current employees.

As part of the grant project, research was conducted that focused on students majoring in educational sciences and analyzed their readiness to work with students with special educational needs. It also studied the challenges faced by current teachers involved in the inclusive education process.

The research project “Teachers in Support of Inclusive Education” is funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (Grant # 3869) and coordinated by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
