An international conference entitled “Probability Theory and Statistics” has opened at Tbilisi State University. The conference is dedicated to the 80th birth anniversary of Professor Estate Khmaladze, a prominent Georgian mathematician and educator.
The conference will include more than 50 representatives from over 30 countries, including universities of Japan, the United States, France, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, the Netherlands, India, and Great Britain, among others. During the five-day conference and workshops, scientists will discuss issues such as parametric and nonparametric statistics; probability and statistical problems in high-dimensional spaces; empirical processes; stochastic models in financial and actuarial mathematics; statistical methods in astrophysics, the relationship between geometry and statistics, etc.
Giorgi Ghvedashvili, head of the TSU Department of Scientific Research and Development, welcomed the participants.
Estate Khmaladze, an outstanding mathematician and educator, is the founder of the Georgian Statistical Association. He is also a foreign member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences and a member of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Additionally, Khmaladze is a professor at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.
The conference is organized by the Department of Mathematics at TSU’s Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences; TSU’s Faculty of Economics and Business; A. Razmadze Institute of Mathematics at TSU; N. Muskhelishvili Institute of Computational Mathematics at Georgian Technical University; E. Chavchanidze Institute of Cybernetics; Georgian Statistical Association, and Georgian American University.
