Cooperation between TSU and Estonian Vocational Education Center

The Memorandum of Cooperation signed by George Sharvashidze, Rector of Tbilisi State University, and Hannes Mets, Manager at Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus, aims at deepening cooperation between the vocational education centers of TSU and Estonia’s Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus, sharing knowledge and experience in the field of vocational education, as well as mobility of students and teachers. Joint international projects will be implemented, and conferences and seminars will be held within the framework of international partnership.

Rector George Sharvashidze said that the memorandum envisages cooperation in various directions, including the implementation of joint exchange programs within the framework of the Erasmus+ program. “Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus is one of the leading vocational education centers in Estonia, and our vocational center has a long and fruitful cooperation with them. The TSU Vocational Education Center also cooperates fruitfully with Finnish colleagues. This kind of triangle gives our students an excellent opportunity to get involved in various international projects,” Rector Sharvashidze noted.

The cooperation between the TSU Vocational Education Center and Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus started in 2019. Within the framework of this cooperation, in 2020, TSU representatives visited Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus in Estonia, where they familiarized themselves with the infrastructure of the center, issues of organizing the educational process, electronic management systems of learning process, and educational programs. Trainings were held on the specifics of online education during the pandemic; the parties shared knowledge and experience with each other.

Hannes Mets, Manager at Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus, hailed the cooperation with TSU and noted that the memorandum would promote deepening of cooperation between the two vocational centers. “This is the beginning of a new history,” he added.

Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus unites vocational education schools of three cities (Sillamäe, Jõhvi, Narva-Jõesuu). It is the largest center in Estonia in terms of number of students and educational programs.

The TSU Vocational Education Center, a new auxiliary educational unit of Tbilisi State University, started to implement all vocational education programs at Tbilisi State University in June 2019. The center implements 15 vocational education programs at two locations - in Tbilisi and Kutaisi. All vocational education programs operating at TSU are fully funded by the state.
