The memorandum of cooperation aims to deepen collaboration between Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State university and the Estonian Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Centers, focusing on sharing knowledge and experience in vocational education, as well as facilitating the mobility of students and faculty. The memorandum was signed by TSU Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze and Ida-Virumaa Director Hannes Mets. As part of the international partnership, joint international projects, conferences, and seminars are also planned.
According to TSU Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze, the memorandum outlines collaboration in various areas, including the implementation of joint exchange programs under the ERASMUS+ program. "Ida-Virumaa is one of the leading vocational education centers in Estonia, and our vocational center has a long and fruitful partnership with them. The TSU Center of Vocational Education also collaborates effectively with Finnish colleagues. This triangular partnership provides our students with excellent opportunities to engage in various international projects," stated the TSU Rector.
Collaboration between the TSU Center of Vocational Education and Ida-Virumaa began in 2019. As part of this collaboration, in 2020, representatives from TSU visited the Estonian Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Center, where they learned about the center's infrastructure, the organization of the educational process, electronic management systems for the educational process, and educational programs. During the pandemic, training sessions were also held regarding the specifics of online learning, where the parties shared knowledge and experience.
"It is a great honor for us to collaborate with Tbilisi State University. Today's memorandum will facilitate the deepening of cooperation between our centers; this is the beginning of a new history," stated Hannes Mets, Director of the Estonian Ida-Virumaa Vocational Education Center.
The Estonian Ida-Virumaa Kutsehariduskeskus Vocational Education Center unites vocational education schools in three cities (Sillamäe, Jõhvi, and Narva-Jõesuu). It is the largest in Estonia in terms of the number of students and educational programs offered.
The implementation of all vocational educational programs at Tbilisi State University began in June 2019 with the establishment of a new supporting educational unit, the "TSU Center of Vocational Education." The center offers 15 vocational educational programs at two locations in Tbilisi and Kutaisi. All vocational educational programs at TSU are 100% funded by the state.
