A special event was held at TSU to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Department of Human Geography.
TSU Rector, Academician Jaba Samushia spoke about the field’s significance and history: “This university school has achieved something unique. It has educated many world-class scientists and researchers. This is one of the main axes of our university. One hundred years is a fairly solid age for an institute. Generations before us have made this school a partner of world scientific institutions. It is important that the School of Human Geography continues its successful tradition and continues to educate the professionals necessary for the modern era.”
Salome Dundua, the dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at TSU, as well as students, professors, and invited guests, attended the event.
The Department of Human Geography is the successor to the Department of Economic Geography, established in 1922 as part of the Faculty of Economics at TSU. It was the first department of its kind at Soviet-era universities.
