During the event, Rector of TSU, George Sharvashidze awarded the team with gold medals for its achievements. “TSU has allocated a place to ensure that healthy lifestyle becomes essential for students and not only. Noteworthy that TSU won the Futsal League this year and we have awarded our athletes who spared no efforts to achieve this success,” Rector George Sharvashidze said.

After winning the national championship, the TSU futsal team is now preparing for the 2020-2021 European Futsal Champions League. The TSU team first won the Georgian Futsal League in 2016. Mikheil Tevzadze, captain of the team, said that the team resumed its training and is actively preparing for the European championship. “We are glad that the first CrossFit gym was opened in Georgia and particularly, at TSU. We are going to play at Champions League and this gym will help us much in getting ready for the championship,” Mikheil Tevzadze said.

TSU Gold Medal was also awarded to Ivane Ergemlidze, a coach. “TSU medal was a real surprise to me. I did not expect it and I want to thank the TSU administration, the Rector, Mr. George Sharvashidze and all those people who made a contribution to this decision,” Ivane Ergemlidze said.

TSU futsal team is waiting for the sortation that was postponed due the COVID-19 pandemic. Until then, it continues training at the CrossFit gym. A common space unites both closed gym and open training ground for seasonal use. Nodar Turdzeladze, majoritarian candidate in Vake single-mandate constituency, also attended the opening ceremony. He said that amid the pandemic, the CrossFit gym will ensure continuous training of professional or amateur athletes. “It is very important that representatives of all generations will have an opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle. The CrossFit gym will train both professional and amateur teams. I think that healthy lifestyle is very important for correct development of all people, youth and children,” Nodar Turdzeladze said.

Opening of the CrossFit gym will revitalize student life at the TSU Maglivi Building and will simultaneously promote the popularization of TSU, as the supporter of healthy lifestyle. To popularize healthy lifestyle and promote youngsters’ interest towards sport, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between TSU and the School Sport Federation. The memorandum was signed by Rector George Sharvashidze and President of the Federation, Konstantine Amirejibi. The purpose of the memorandum is to popularize healthy lifestyle among children and students through joint sport and educational events, as well as to contribute to the development of school sport.
