The 2nd International Summer School in Sociolinguistics opened at Tbilisi State University, organized by the State Language Department, TSU and the Giorgi Akhvlediani Society for the History of Linguistics. Erekle Astakhishvili, Deputy Rector of TSU; Giorgi Alibegashvili, Chairman of the State Language Department; Tinatin Bolkvadze, Head of the School, and invited lecturers from universities in the Netherlands, Italy and the U.S. attended the opening ceremony.
The summer school will last for one week. Students from TSU and other Georgian higher education institutions, as well as foreign students from various countries, will participate in the school.
The Summer School in Sociolinguistics aims to provide undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, young scientists and postdoctoral specialists in philology, linguistics, ethnology, ethnography and sociology with knowledge of sociolinguistic theory and practice, language contact types and consequences, linguistic situations, language hierarchies in the state, language policies and human linguistic rights.
