TSU, German Universities Expand Cooperation

To discuss and expand their existing partnership, a TSU delegation visited the Universities of Trier and Saarland. The visit took place within the framework of the EU-funded Erasmus + International Credit Mobility project. During meetings with academic and administrative staff at both universities, TSU and the host universities gave presentations on various topics. Meetings were also held with TSU students studying at these universities under various programs.

Saarland University representatives organized an event “Get to Know Georgia and Tbilisi State University” at the Academic Staff Club. The discussion focused on the existing cooperation between TSU and the University of Trier. The University of Trier representatives emphasized the mutual benefits that this cooperation will bring to TSU and their university. In turn, TSU representatives spoke about the Georgian higher education system, student and academic staff exchange programs, and support for developing academic programs.

The participants decided to begin developing a joint master's program in digital humanities. The discussion also touched on creating double degree programs at the master's level in economics and business. Students and professors from the archaeology departments of TSU and the University of Trier will participate in joint archaeological expeditions. Representatives of the two universities agreed to create joint projects and to cooperate in various areas, including further strengthening and expanding student and academic staff mobility.

The meetings held at the University of Saarland focused on developing the existing cooperation, which began in 1983. The German side presented the university's internationalization and research strategies. The event discussed opportunities for expanding future cooperation.

Tbilisi State University has long-standing relationships with the Universities of Trier and Saarland. These relationships are implemented within the framework of the European Union's Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Program, the Eastern Partnership Program (DAAD), and bilateral cooperation.
