How do students have access to a dormitory?

Enrolled students with active student status can apply to the TSU Administration.

Who can obtain a student ID card?

Students with active status, studying in any authorized higher educational institution for a BA, MA, PhD, medical/dentist and Georgian language preparation program are eligible for student ID cards.

Where can I obtain a student ID card?

Go to the Public Service Hall of TSU to apply for a student ID card.

Who can use a student travel card and where can you get one?

Students of BA, MA, PhD, medical/dentist and Georgian language preparation programs can use student travel cards for public transportation. These are issued by all branches of the Bank of Georgia.

What does recognition of foreign education mean?

This includes verification of the authenticity of an educational document issued by a foreign institution and establishing equivalency for institutions and documents from foreign countries that includes learning outcomes. in Georgia. The National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement is charged with this function (see Annex 2).

Does TSU issue a diploma recognized by the State?

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is an authorized higher educational institution. According to the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region (The Lisbon Convention – 1977), the diploma issued by TSU is recognized throughout the world.

Forty-nine countries, including Georgia are members of the Bologna Process. Signing the Bologna Declaration was preceded by adoption of a number of documents, among them the Magna Charta Universitatum (Great Charter of Universities, 1988); the Lisbon Convention (1997) and the Sorbonne Declaration (1998).

Georgia joined the Hague Apostille Convention on May 14, 2007 (Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents). Since then, all documents used on the territories of the parties to the Hague Convention are apostilled by Georgia’s official authorities.

Is it possible to continue studies abroad with a Diploma issued by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University?

Yes, however enrollment and mobility in higher educational institutions are regulated by the legislation of each country. Preconditions for continuing studies and student mobility vary according to each country.  Documents issued in Georgia, such as diplomas, are subject to verification, legalization or apostilization.

Students can apply to the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement. For legalization or an apostille they should apply to the Civil Registry Agency under the Ministry of Justice.

When and how should a foreign citizen sign a contract with the University?

After the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport issues a decree granting the right to education in Georgia, foreign applicants sign a contract with the higher educational institution of their choice. The contract can also be formalized electronically.

Is a student eligible to sign a contract if he/she is underage?

If a student is under the age of 18, education contracts are signed by a parent or legal guardian who present a notarized copy of their birth certificate.

Is another person eligible to sign a contract?

Another person shall be eligible to sign a contract only after submitting a letter of authorization.

What is the difference between ‘administrative’ and ‘academic’ registration? Administrative registration means signing a contract and paying a tuition fee for the university. Academic registration is carried out online, to choose relevant courses of study.

When and how are courses shall be selected?

Courses are selected electronically through the learning process management system according to information issue by relevant faculties.

How much is the tuition fee?

Tuition fees are defined each new academic year by the university.

How can tuition fees be paid?

Students can pay for a full year at the beginning of their first semester, or in two equal parts, at the beginning of each academic semester.

Tuition can be paid in any branch or Pay Box of the following banks:
 -  Bank of Georgia

   -TBC Bank (or TBC Pay)

Liberty Bank (or Liberty Bank self-service terminals)

How many credits can a student choose each year?

According to TSU regulations, a student’s annual course load should not exceed 65 (ECTS) credits.

What is the difference between “suspension” and “termination” of student status?

Suspension of a student status means temporary release of TSU and a student from fulfilling mutual rights and obligations that cannot exceed a period of 5 years.

Termination of student status means releasing TSU and a student from fulfilling mutual rights and obligations without any possibility of restoring student status. Termination status is considered as suspended for 12 months, during which time a student can change to another higher educational institution.

In which cases are students suspended?

Student status is suspended if a student fails to undergo administrative/academic registration within the time limits specified by the Rector’s order.

In which cases shall a student status be terminated?

Student status is terminated in the following cases:

Suspension of student status for more than 5 years during studies at the university;

Lack of completion of an educational program at a relevant educational stage;

Personal application;

Failure to receive credits during one and the same compulsory course three times;

By decision of the Faculty Disciplinary Board according to the Norms of Internal Rules and Disciplinary Liability of the University’s Code of Ethics;

Student is deceased.

What is ‘student mobility’?

The free movement of students within Georgia and abroad, to participate in learning, teaching and research, accompanied by recognition of education, credits or qualifications during the period of studies.

Can a student change faculty?

A student can change faculty through ‘internal mobility’ at last one semester of studies. The ‘period of studies’ cannot include time when student status was suspended. 

Can I qualify for a university stipend?

Students can receive stipends based on academic performance. Apply to the relevant faculty.
