"Intercultural Competences" - certification course for TSU exchange students

 

Prerequisite for joining the course for students: holding the status of a grantee in the mobility and/or exchange program administered by TSU

 

Course volume:

  • For undergraduate and master-level students: 8 contact hours
  • For PhD students: 6 contact hours

 

Course objectives and expected results:

In today's diverse society, intercultural competencies are among one of the most necessary skills to effectively communicate between cultures.

In the era of globalization, especially in the last two decades, one of the important issues facing the modern society, in general, and the representatives of the field of higher education, in particular, is the preparation of youth for effective integration in a multicultural society and facilitating the acquisition/development of knowledge or skills necessary for unhindered activities and life with people of one's own and different cultures.

The purpose of the course "Intercultural Competencies" is to strengthen personal and institutional intercultural competencies of students participating in TSU mobility and exchange programs (selecting and developing activities that will help the student to establish peaceful, benevolent relationships etc.)

 

Participation in the course will help students to:

  • Develop successful communication skills with representatives of other cultures
  • Form a positive attitude towards linguistic and cultural diversity
  • Develop skills for understanding different cultural contexts and texts
  • Get to know the socio-culture and culture of foreign-speaking countries
  • Consider oneself from the perspective of another culture for the purpose of self-knowledge
  • Get to know others’ cultural, ethnic and linguistic alternatives
  • Accept and respect the perspectives of differences coming from different European and non-European nations and cultural experiences
  • Master the literacy skills needed to function effectively in the global world
  • Work in a multicultural group
  • Develop the ability to work in a disciplined environment

 

Additional important information:

  • Taking the course is mandatory for all students who are grantees of the mobility and exchange programs administered by TSU (before the mobility).
  • The course is free of charge!
  • Attendance of the course does not lead to receiving ECTS!
