Call for applications for junior faculty members of accredited public research universities in Georgia (who have defended their doctoral theses no earlier than January 1, 2018) and PhD students. The program aims to develop research skills and professional connections.

 

The given call is valid for PhD students and junior faculty members in the following academic fields:

  • Biology
  • Business/Management
  • Chemistry
  • Computer sciences
  • Economics
  • Electronic engineering
  • Geography
  • Geology/Water Science
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

 

At the time of application (and if successful in the selection process, until the completion of the program),

a) in the case of a PhD-level applicant, s/he must be in the possession of an active student’s status at a public institution of higher education in Georgia and have a GPA of no lower than 2.5,

b) in the case of a junior faculty member, s/he must be employed at a public institution of higher education, for the purposes of teaching and/or research.

 

The deadline for receiving the application materials is December 15, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Tbilisi time.  Interviews with applicants will be held during the first week of March 2024. Interviews will be held in person in Tbilisi; virtual/online participation in the interview is not possible.Successful candidates will travel to Dallas (USA) in June 2024 and spend 8 weeks there.

Applicants do not require to be in possession of a pre-acceptance letter from a faculty member of the University of Texas at the application stage.

The mentioned eight-week program includes a trip from Tbilisi to Dallas (Texas, USA), which will begin with a two-week-long intensive training in the English language and will continue with a course focusing on academic and grant writing, preparing a dissertation, and academic presentation skills.

Successful candidates must attend virtual orientation sessions two months prior to departure.

The program budget provides a round-trip international travel ticket for the selected participants, the provision of accommodation and food, financing of a public transport card valid in Dallas, and allocation of a per diem.

 

The program is funded by the US Embassy in Georgia and the US Department of State.

 

Required documents for PhD students:

1. Application form;

2. CV

3. Letter of support from a scientific supervisor;

4. Brief outline of applicant’s research;

5. Poof of active status of the student;

6. Proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL iBT 90; IELTS (minimum average score of 6.5) or CAMBRIDGE (FCE), CERTUS (B2), or proof of teaching in English at a university level, face-to-face).

 

Required documents for young professors:

1. Application form;

2. CV

3. A letter of support from the Head of the Department/Academic Unit;

4. A sample of scientific article published in English during the last 5 years;

6. Proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL iBT 90; IELTS (minimum average score of 6.5) or CAMBRIDGE (FCE), CERTUS (B2), or proof of teaching in English at a university level, face-to-face).

                         

!!! PhD applicants from TSU who do not have an English language certificate can register to the October 2023 edition of the Institutional Foreign Languages Testing.  Those passing the threshold of B2 level will have the right to continue their application to the given program.
