A jubilee week of events is being held at TSU dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the university`s founder, the distinguished Georgian scholar and public figure, Ivane Javakhishvili.
What is the phenomenon of Javakhishvili? A single individual embodied an extraordinary breadth of knowledge. He was the author of fundamental scholarly works in the history of the Georgian nation, the history of Georgian literature, linguistics, economic history, history of law, the history of music, archaeology, the history of medicine, Caucasian studies, ethnology, military science, geography and cartography, the history of church, Armenology, source studies, pedagogy, museology, and beyond.
Ivane Javakhishvili made an invaluable contribution to the development of Georgian scholarship, including the field of history of law. He conducted in-depth research into the history of law in Georgia, its individual sources, and specific works produced within the legal domain, while also elucidating the historical foundations of the various branches of Georgian law.
Ivane Javakhishvili was among the first to institutionalize the historical-legal method of research at the university; his works demonstrated that the Georgian people possessed their own legal culture and tradition - an insight of profound importance for national identity and self-definition.
Ivane Javakhishvili`s scholarly activity became a bridge between Georgia`s legal heritage and the international academic community, facilitating the integration of Georgian law into the global scholarly landscape.
Within the framework of the jubilee week, the international scholarly conference `Ivane Javakhishvili 150` was held. The event was attended by the administrative and academic staff of the TSU Faculty of Law.
Professors of the Faculty of Law and invited lecturers took part in the international scholarly conference dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili’s birth. The Faculty of Law held the conference in two sections, where key issues of the history of Georgian law and contemporary legal developments were discussed.
During the jubilee days, TSU Publishing House presented the second edition of the book `The Life and Contributions of Ivane Javakhishvili`. The monograph is authored by TSU Professor Sergo Jorbenadze, a corresponding member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and an Honored Scientist.
