As part of the week dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili, a presentation of a collector's coin, a concept sketch of a jubilee postage stamp, and the photo album ‘Ivane Javakhishvili 150’ was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
The photo album ‘Ivane Javakhishvili 150’ combines unique photographs depicting the life and multifaceted activities of the great Georgian scientist, historian and university founder from birth to the end of his life. The scientist is known to have shown a special interest in Georgian architectural monuments, temples and historical buildings, which he recorded on film. Javakhishvili, passionate about photography, often photographed Mariam Jambakur-Orbeliani and the Abashidze family. The material presented in the album is an important historical and documentary treasure. The photo album aims to showcase Ivane Javakhishvili’s rich scientific and cultural heritage and recognize his achievements.
The event also featured the unveiling of a design for a commemorative postage stamp honoring the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili. The design was approved by the Standing Commission for the Issuance of National Postage Stamps, an advisory body of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. The commission brings together approximately 20 representatives from various agencies and professions.
The event officially announced the issuance of a collector coin dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili by the National Bank of Georgia - a 1 GEL commemorative coin for collectors. This coin will be another important expression of appreciation for the legacy of the great scientist and the national educational history.
Those in attendance included: Beka Dochviri, the Executive Director of the National Bank of Georgia; Eka Kubusidze, the Head of the Department of Communications, Information and Modern Technologies of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development; Giorgi Eradze, the Director General of Georgian Post; and Zurab Gaiparashvili, the Head of the TSU Library.
